Hi. Welcome to My World.

ME LAUGHING SEPIA BRIGHTENEDI’m so glad you’re here.  Come right in and make yourself at home. You’ll find a lot more details about me and the history of this site on the “About Sandra” page, but for now, here’s all you need to know:

When you clicked on this page, you walked into the writing world of a happy, healthy, notoriously politically INcorrect author. (Just a little fair warning to get you started.)

I’m actually just a girl in love with words, and I’m pretty sure you share that love, or you wouldn’t be here. I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t fascinated by both reading and writing.  In fact I was so enamored of writing that I even taught myself to write in cursive before I started school.

And certainly I was almost never without a book to read — or two — or three at the same time. I still do that: read several books at once. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s a feeling that there are just too many great things to read, and I don’t want to miss out on any of them.

I started writing my own stories when I was in early grammar school, and I wrote my first full-length play in the sixth grade. But what can I say: Mom Writer + Dad Writer = Me Writer — Right?

It’s true. I inherited both the love and the gift for writing from my wonderful parents. Of course, I’m also aware that the Lord is the One who gives us those gifts and talents in the first place, and I am constantly grateful for the privilege of enjoying — and employing — those blessings.

For many years now, I’ve had the honor and the fun of being a newspaper journalist and columnist, an inspirational novelist, a short story writer, an essayist, a poet, a creative writing teacher, and a minister of the Gospel. I hope you’ll let me share with you here about some of my work that is available in the marketplace. I’ll feature specific books and projects from time to time, and I’ve also included a page —MY BOOKS in the Navigation bar — devoted to giving you brief descriptions of my books and links to the Amazon pages where you can buy them. You’ll also find most of my work if you just visit my Amazon Author’s Page.

Click on the MY BLOG link, here or in the navigation bar, to visit my blog posts — and please comment and communicate freely on those posts.  If you’re part of the WordPress family, you should see a “Follow” button in the lower right corner of your page. If you’re not part of the WordPress family but would like to subscribe to this website so you get a notification when new posts go up, just drop down to the Footer section at the bottom of the page, and you’ll find the “Subscribe” button.

Now, have fun here. And come visit often.

Be blessed.

  1. I just saw your message to Bob on his blog. I am one of his McDonald’s friends in Oregon. Seeing you write books just ordered for Amazon the kindle book 1 Set Thee to Love. Starting it soon, but I only read one book at a time.

    1. Oh, I’m so glad to know that you ordered one. Those “Smoky Mountain Series” books are my best- sellers. I hope you like it and that it blesses you. The book I talked to Bob about has his picture on the cover. It’s the one of a giraffe that he also did some graphic work on so that is shows a giraffe (from the Oregon zoo) on a door leading “nowhere.” But it inspired a short story as soon as I saw it, and he gave me permission to use it on the cover of an anthology of short stories. It’s been out a couple years, but it’s being enlarged now and will also be on Amazon in a couple months.

Bob’s a sweet man and a great photographer. I’m glad I know him. I bet you guys in Oregon really miss him. I actually live in Southern Illinois, only about 1 1/2 hours from where he used to live many years ago before he moved to South Carolina and then Oregon.

      1. He showed us the giraffe picture and was so excited you were using it on the cover of your book. So it is you! I came from Chicago 24 years ago to retire in Oregon. Keep writing books truly inspiring.

        1. Isn’t it interesting how all of us ‘Illinois’ people got connected through the Internet. We’d never have met if we hadn’t started using computers.

I love that picture of the giraffe. The new, enlarged anthology of short stories should be out before the end of July. It has a new title, but the same picture. I wouldn’t give that up for anything.

Thanks for your encouraging words about the writing. I’m working on 3 new novels right now. Not sure which one will be done first.

  2. I started reading your books when you answered one of Bob’s blogs saying you are an author. I an so very glad you did. Your books are very easy to read right from the beginning and some are not. Thanks for you wonderful Christian books.
    Pat

    1. Oh, I’m so glad you are enjoying reading them. My greatest joy is to learn that they bless people. Thank you very much for letting me know. Books 3 and 4 of that Smoky Mountain series will be available on Amazon in paperback too by the middle of July.

Almost all of my novels are Christian fiction, but one of the newest — “Innocent Until Proven Guilty” — is a little different. It’s the first in a series of novellas, and it is not technically a “Christian” book, but as the series progresses, the Gospel will start to have more and more place in it. I’m hoping people who don’t read Christian books will pick it up and get interested in the series and then gradually get introduced to Jesus.

Thanks again for letting me know you like the books. God bless you.

  3. My name is George Brosi. I have been reviewing books about Appalachia for decades. For almost thirty years, from 1985 until 2013, I also did short reviews of new Appalachian books for each quarterly issue of Appalachian Heritage magazine. Last year (after the illness, death, and a period of mourning for my late wife) I resumed these reviews on this widely-read website:
    https://apmtbooks.com/blogs/re views
I am anxious for those who see my reviews to be aware of the books that you are publishing.
I post reviews here monthly, and publicize my postings each month on facebook, list serves, and other means. Many librarians, scholars, and readers utilize my reviews to make decisions on what to purchase.
Please send a review copy of Cameron’s Rib and any other 2017 releases you have that deal with Appalachia to:

    Thanks very much!

    1. Thank you for offering to feature my books in some of your postings, but I do not have any personal copies that I can send out for review at this time. Actually, book one of the “Smoky Mountain Series,” which is titled “Set Free To Love,” is the only one of the four that deals directly with the mountains themselves. The others are set in the same area and relate lightly to that fact, but not in great detail.

Hey, don't you dare go away without leaving me a note!
