This week’s Friday Fictioneers prompt is a photo by David Stewart of a statue in his home city in Korea. My response turned out to be a love story — maybe because my focus this week is on Valentine’s Day. Here’s David’s photo, followed by my take on the challenge.

A Royal Love Story
Once upon a time, a starving sculptor fell hopelessly in love with Princess Kameko.
“He will have to create a great statue for the courtyard of my palace, and prove himself worthy of you,” the king said to Kameko. “It must exhibit his love for you in such unusual manner that people from many lands will travel to see it.”
The artist thought – agonized – for days, finally presenting himself to the king with tools in hand.
Three days later, the royal city gathered in the courtyard and gasped with pleasure at the unveiling of the oblique statue: Falling In Love.
Artist and princess lived happily ever after.

A nice little love story. Good use of the prompt.
Thanks, Joe. It just worked out that it fit in with my Valentine theme for the next couple of days.
Literally falling in love, wonderful!
Oh…how sweet. it’s like a fairy tale. Very refreshing and it feels good. Good one Sandra!
If he were anymore falling in love, he’d be flat out in love. 🙂 There’s nothing like a happily-ever-after-story every so often and this is the perfect time of year for it.
Happy Valentine’s Day,
janet
Perfect and different!
Dear Sandra,
Your story was the embodiment of the prompt. Well done.
Aloha,
Doug

Interesting sculpture and story! Thanks for sharing.
Very romantic, very topical. Well done.
Dear Sandra,
There’s nothing like a happily ever after story to start off Valentine’s Day. Imaginative and well done. It left me with smiles and warm fuzzies.
Shalom,
Rochelle
PS Thanks for your kind words on mine.
Very beautiful story. Thinking of it as Falling in Love is a very positive take on it.
Thank you. I had already designated Wednesday through Friday as “Three Days of Love” on this site, in honor of Valentine’s Day. Then this prompt came out. I honestly wasn’t TRYING to think of a love story. This little fairy tale is just what came to me. I was actually surprised when I realized that what I had written would fit right into my “love” theme.
It is a perfect Valentine’s day story 🙂 I like love stories that end happily.
Beautiful story. I enjoyed reading it. 🙂
Love the fairytale format of this one. Sweet little love story. 🙂
This was so sweet!! Love the fairy tale aspect.
I love the fairy tale, and what better day to tell it than Valentine. Thank you.
A lovely story.
Oh, Sandra, I love this one! And you include everything – the location, the desperate statue, and a happy-ending background story.
Thank you. It really was fun. And although I wasn’t pushing to get a love story out of it, that is the only thing that came to me. It did fit Valentine’s Day perfectly.
Hi Sandra — I enjoyed this story.
of all the stories i’ve read in all the months, i don’t think anyone ever started one with “once upon a time” and ended with “happily ever after” before. well done.
It is rather interesting, isn’t it, that a style of intro and ending that has been used for centuries previously has now, in this 21st century, become a “new” format for telling a story. Thanks for taking the time to read it and comment.
The sculptor was lucky the king liked the sculpture! I liked your take on ‘falling’ in love. Ann
fairy tale..a lovely royal story
