MERRY-GO-ROUND
All my life I wanted a merry-go-round. Little more than a big wheel tipped sideways and mounted high enough off the ground to turn freely when pushed. I often passed playgrounds and looked longingly at other children riding – squealing with delight – each taking a turn at pushing.
But Mom never let me ride. And I swore that, when I grew up, I’d build myself a great big merry-go-round of my very own. But, alas, I’ve lived in apartments.
Well, last month, I bought an apartment building. And my first “improvement” project was constructing my dream ride. No yard to work with, I went right to the top.
It’s almost finished! Yay Me!

Hey, Dawn, reading this just made me realize I spelled “yay” wrong. That spelling in my story is what I generally use for the expression that is slang for “yes.” Don’t know why I used it in the story. Although people often use a lot of those idiomatic phrases interchangeably. Sometimes I wish we had a book with all of them spelled one way, so that we all used the same spelling. Although if that happened, I’d probably still be a rebel because in every book I’ve ever read, when a character is pausing and thinking before he speaks, the author usually has him use the expression “ah.” But that isn’t realistic, because what we really say is “uh.” So I always use “uh” in my books. Better go change the last line of my story though. Thanks.
Let me tell you, I had the same problem. Yea, yeah, when you started typing it it all became up to the reader to decipher and he may decipher different than what I intended. My ex, who is not a big reader asked me to clarify so I started spelling it Yay, in it’s simplest form to help him. I remember yeah from an old sweat shirt I had that says “Yeah, right”.
