Sail Away With This Mystery Romance

SIM. ST. INNOCENT FRONT AM. COVER2Well, naturally, I can’t pass up an opportunity like this. Today’s Daily Post Prompt is the word “sail.”  And it just so happens that the main character in my mystery novella Innocent Until Proven Guilty — Homicide Detective Simon Stone — loves to sail. And even though he suspects Deanna Forbes of murder, he can’t deny his deep attraction to her, so he invites her to go sailing with him on his boat, the Blue Swan.

As their relationship grows, Simon finds himself torn. One part of him wants to love and trust this woman who is the first to ever capture his heart. But another part of him fears that somewhere deep inside Deanna beats the heart of a possible killer. Can he solve the crime before he falls too deeply into the ocean of love? That’s the question that keeps readers turning the page.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty is Book 1 in the Simon Stone Detective Series: On target, quick-read novellas for the busy reader who still wants to enjoy stories of mystery and romance. Available on Amazon in Paperback right now, but coming in digital this week!

NaPoWriMo – 2013 – Day 3 — ‘The Anchor’s Away …’

NAPO 2013 BUTTON

Finally, I am ON TIME!  Today’s prompt is to write a “sea chanty” or “sea shanty,” depending on which historical spelling and definition you choose to favor.  Anyway, we are to write a poem with rhyme and a rhythm that can be used to keep a steady pace at physical work — and it should be connected with the sea as well. Here’s my attempt:

‘THE ANCHOR’S AWAY, AND I HAVE TO GO’

SHIP AND CANNON - PDPHOTOchorus
Heave! – Ho! Heave! – Ho!
Over the rim and into the stow;
The anchor’s away, and we have to go.
Heave Ho, Me Mates, Heave Ho!

verse 1
I had shore leave, but now ’tis done,
And I must sale at rise of sun,
To join the fight two weeks begun,
Heave Ho, Me Mates, Heave Ho!

chorus
Heave! – Ho! Heave! – Ho!
Over the rim and into the stow.
The anchor’s away, and we have to go.
Heave Ho, Me Mates, Heave Ho!

verse 2
I kissed my love and wished her well;
Said, “I must make my way to hell;
To win this war my soul I’d sell!”
Heave Ho, Me Mates, Heave Ho!

chorus
Heave! – Ho! Heave! – Ho!
Over the rim and into the stow;
The anchor’s away, and we have to go.
Heave Ho, Me Mates, Heave Ho!

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Wood

A Marquetry picture made for me by my dad. He has always loved working with wood and has created furniture, plaques, toys, pictures, and multitudes of other items.  Some of you will be familiar with Marquetry, but for those who are not, it is artwork created out of pieces of inlaid wood of various kinds. There is no paint used.  All of the color comes from the natural colors of the wood itself. My dad personally carved each piece used in this picture. It’s one of my favorites, but it was hard to get a good photo because of so much light reflection in the room.  I think this is clear enough for you to enjoy.
