Weekly Photo Challenge — Unusual

This photo shows a thin slice of wood embedded into the side of a tree trunk following a Derecho with winds up to 8o miles per hour.  It looked “unusual” enough for me to take a picture of it for the newspaper.

  1. Reminds me of my sisters house when tornadoes ran through N.C. back in 88-89. I think there were like 13 touchdowns. Two of my sisters, and a brother-in-law huddled together hugging, and praying for their lives (though neither had, or, has still, as far as I know a relationship with Christ) beneath the stair case after hearing what they said sounded like a train coming straight for the house. The next day when I came over the only damage to the house I saw was a 12′ long 2×8 board sticking into the side of the house like it had been shot from an arrow.

On the next road over, less than a block from them, a twisted, shattered, and torn, pile of pick a pick-up-stix looking house was sitting in the middle of the street, with the foundation still sitting on it’s original lot 15 feet away with the refrigerator standing in place. Sadly, the stone chimney was not standing, as it had fallen onto a bed taking the life of a teenage girl. She was only one of many who lost their lives that night.

  2. Lucky it is the tree and not a person.. Derecho?(violent windstorm) looked it up, hehe!
lovely picture and take on theme. 😉
