Thanksgiving = Family

When I was a child, we sang this song in school every November.

“Over the river and through the wood,
To Grandfather’s house we go;
The horse knows the way
To carry the sleigh
Through the white and drifted snow.

Over the river and through the wood,
Trot fast, my dapple-gray!
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound!
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

“Over the river and through the wood —
Now Grandmother’s cap I spy!
Hurrah for the fun!
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!”

  1. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving Day Celebration Sandra !
    Can imagine this being sung by children with great gusto and anticipation of a fun family get together .

  2. We use to sing this too when I was in school. Usually our school choir sang it almost every year. I miss hearing it. Thank you for the memories. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. 😉

    1. Just want to let you know that I have nominated you for the “Very Inspiring Blogger Award.” You can find all the information about the award on my site. And please feel free to comply with only the parts of the “rules” that you are comfortable with.
