Thanksgiving Thursday — one day late

I had so much going on yesterday — with roofers at my house and a printer that wouldn’t print my curriculum for my writing class Thursday night. As a result, I missed posting my “Thanksgiving Thursday” post. So I’m a day late, but determined. If you’d like to share something you’re thankful for this week, just post about it and paste the link to it in the “Comments” section below — any day is fine.

FORKLIFT WITH BOXESThis week I’m thankful for my NEW ROOF.  Yes indeedy!  The old one was down to the bare wood on one side. Thanks to God’s protection, it had not started leaking into the house, but I’m so glad to have the new one.

I’m not including a picture of that roof because I’d have to stand so far away to get it to show that you couldn’t really see it clearly anyway. Instead, I’ve included a picture of a truck with a forklift because I stood and watched as one of the biggest trucks I’ve ever seen pulled into my yard, and then the driver turned to a forklift on the back of the truck and lifted huge pallets of roofing material from the bed of the truck all the way up onto my roof. I’d never watched anything like that before, and it was fun.

Even though you can’t see the roof for yourself, you can take my word for it:  IT’S PRETTY!

Witty Little Ditty – Daily Post Prompt

GREEN TYPEWRITER - gold

I must compose a witty little ditty.
It’s for the daily posty prompty thingy.
The problem is the prompt’s so very ‘daily,’
But I will meet the challenge of it gaily.

Now, to choose a subject for my ditty.
I don’t want it to sound too flighty-flitty.
Perhaps I’ll write of love — so very pretty,
Or courage in the face of danger — gritty.

No, on the other hand, this little prompty
Is starting now to aggravate my tummy.
So maybe I’ll hold off and have a thinky,
Before I write this posty prompty thingy.

Daily Post Prompt: Witty

Question # 1:  What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Walking. I’m not a ‘sports’ person, but I do enjoy walking — especially in the fall.

Question # 2:  In a car, would you rather drive or be a passenger?

It depends. Sometimes I’m in the mood to drive, and other times I’d much rather someone else did the work and had to do all the concentrating, so I can just enjoy the journey. However, nowadays, there are so many people who feel they absolutely cannot refrain from picking up their cell phone — or leaning over to read the screen — every time it dings to notify them of a text that I don’t trust very many people to drive me anywhere. These people who think that just because they aren’t “sending” a text, it’s okay to take their eyes from the road and read one are crazy.  And I won’t let crazy people drive while I’m in the car.

Question # 3:  If you could have 3 wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?

Well, I have to admit that my choices are variable. A lot depends on the mood I’m in and what I’ve been experiencing lately in my life. But as of today — this hour — I’d say the following:

  1. I wish I could live in the Great Smoky Mountains.
  2. I wish I could spend a month in New England every year.
  3. I wish I could fall in love one more time while I’m on this earth. [That’s not as easy as it sounds — or maybe I’m just too particular 🙂 ]

Question # 4:  What inspired you, or what did you appreciate this past week?

I came across so many great coffee pictures (and I do appreciate a good cup of coffee) that they inspired me to begin creating a coffee calendar. I’ll put one or two together for next year and perhaps sell them as I do greeting cards.

Daily Grind Coffee Quotes – Day 1

I recently discovered some great coffee pictures, and now I can’t seem to stop myself from coming up with fitting slogans for all of them.  So I decided I’d just turn them into my own ‘Coffee Calendar.’ 🙂 Then I figured that while I’m accumulating my pics and creating my quotes, I might as well share them with my readers here. I need at least 12 for a full year’s calendar, but I may have more than 12 to work with. I’m thinking I’ll also do a series of coffee-themed greeting cards. So when I’m to the end of my collection, maybe all of you readers can help me choose the 12 to use for the printed calendar and another 12 for the card series.

Well, I can’t get done until I’ve begun, so today’s the day.  Enjoy!

ART PALET AND BRUSHESQuestion # 1: What do you want to learn more about?

Painting. I took up painting a couple years ago because I felt it would help me relax. I studied through videos offered by some artists who made learning fun. However, I have so little time to devote to the craft that I lose touch with what I’ve learned. So I guess what I really want is to learn more from the “hands-on” perspective, and I’m going to make a real effort towards that goal between now and the end of the year.

TOILET STOOLQuestion # 2:  On vacation, what would you require in any place that you sleep?

An absolutely clean bathroom and absolutely clean bedding — from the mattress to the top bedspread.  Finding both of those things is almost impossible — even when you spend loads of money — which is one reason I don’t travel as much as I used to.

Question # 3:  What is your greatest extravagance?

kleenex-5610_1920.JPG - Hans = freeI’m ashamed to say it, but it’s paper products. I tend to use things like paper tower, toilet paper, and kleenex rather freely. I do try to always buy the paper towel that lets you use half sheets if you don’t need whole sheets. That helps. But to counter that savings, I’ve begun eating off paper plates and out of paper bowls a lot lately as well. I don’t have a dishwasher, and just knowing that disposable dishes will keep my dishwashing down to just a couple times a week is a plus for me. I have several jobs (associate pastor, writer, editor, teacher — both college classes and private classes). So housework of any kind gets put way down on my list. Anything that saves me time and energy in that capacity may lead to my being rather extravagant.

Question # 4: What inspired you this past week?

This picture from wallpapercraft.com. It inspired me to dream and give my imagination free reign for the first time in several weeks.

Cinquain to a Wise (?) Owl

Exif JPEG

Wise Owl,
I’m mystified
About why you’re thought wise.
Is it your hunting skills, or just
Big eyes?

It seems
That when it comes
To communication,
Vocabulary isn’t your
Strong point.

“Who, Who”?
I mean — Get real —
Those words show ignorance.
Yet men believe wisdom resides
In you?

Ah well,
Still mystified,
I will concede I like
To hear you “sing” while others sleep —
At night.

Also posted for Daily Post Prompt: Leaf.  Since my owl is sitting in a tree with leaves, I figure this little bit of cinquain fits the prompt.

Thanksgiving Thursday 9/21/17

Many of you know that I have been going through a very sad time in my life lately. And, as I’m sure most of you are aware, it’s very easy to let the sadness add its weight to all the other pressures and stresses of life and cloud our vision so that we focus on the negative much more than it deserves our focus. So today I’m making a point of focusing on something positive that I’m thankful for. And I think, perhaps, I’ll make this focus a weekly priority — every Thursday — for a while. Any of you who have something you’re thankful for are welcome to share a link to your post on that subject right here in my comment window. (Doesn’t have to be a Thursday. Any day this week will be fine.)

This week I’m very grateful for the new family of birds in my yard. They seem to be living in my big Blue Spruce tree, and evidently there are a bunch of new babies. When I looked outside, about 7 of them were perched on the railing to my front steps — and in the azalea bush beside the steps. I just had to get some pictures of them — even though I had to shoot through the screened door. (That’s why the pics are a little fuzzy looking.) I didn’t dare open the door to get a clearer picture because the birds get frightened and scatter at the slightest sound.

I wish I’d had a way to video them because part of the time, one of the little birds had a hard time maintaining his grip on the wrought iron, and he kept sliding down the rail, into his neighbor. It was so cute.

Well, that’s about it, but I got interrupted while writing this, so the posting date may show Friday’s date instead of Thursday’s. Oh well, no matter. It’s still ‘Thanksgiving Thursday’ as far as I’m concerned. Don’t forget to share your own link here if you’d like to — anytime this week.
