Weekly Smile 80

Well, this week I’m sharing a lot more than a smile. I’m sure no one can watch this video without smiling, but I have to tell you that I laughed out loud — several times. These delightful birds had so much fun in this fountain. Several of them got completely carried away shoving their heads down into the bubbling font where the water was flowing in. And then they just threw the water all over themselves. In a couple segments of the tape, one of the birds keeps stepping on another whose just below him in an effort to get higher up on the fountain itself. If you want an hour of rest, refreshment, and just plain fun, watch this. Or just watch part of it. You’ll be glad you did.

Summer:
I don’t like it.
If I had my own way,
It would be relegated to
One month.

Winter:
I feel the same
About this season too.
If only I could make the call —
One month.

Springtime:
Well it’s quite nice.
The fragrances so sweet,
Gentle breezes, warm sun, new life —
Two months.

Autumn:
My favorite!
Skies crystal blue, crisp air,
Gold leaves, spice scents, and holidays —
Eight months!

Weekly Smile # 76

I’m posting a “smile” for Trent’s weekly invitational about “happy subjects” again this week. If you’d like to get involved hop over to his site and get the particulars.

Today, I want to share a photo by a wonderful friend of mine who is a professional photographer in Wisconsin. Terry Valley and I have been friends since high school days. Our lives took routes into different states over the years, but, thanks to technology, we’ve been able to remain close. Maybe it’s because I know Terry so well that I find his work so delightful, but I honestly think he has a keen eye and an artists feel for so much of what he photographs.

Anyway today, I’m sharing one of my favorites of his pictures. It was actually a spur-of-the-moment shot as he was driving past a corn field right after a storm. Every time I look at this picture, it makes me smile. And since I’m currently using it as my laptop wallpaper, I’m smiling a lot this week.

Amazing Azaleas

Cee’s Flower of the Day post today caused me to dig out pictures of my azaleas. I’ve been very blessed with these gorgeous blooms for years. Last year I had to cut a couple of the bushes way back because they had taken over my sidewalk and my front porch. This year, they were a little sluggish in producing, but a friend of mine assures me that by next year, they will be going full-throttle again.  Anyway, here are some shots from 2 or 3 different years.

Do The Job You’ve Been Assigned

Thursday some of my daffodils were showing off their bright yellow bonnets and waving in the breeze. Friday, a heavy, merciless rain drenched them and beat them to the ground. That event was followed by cold temperatures again, after two weeks of spring-like weather.

But this scenario is not new — for me or my daffodils. In fact, almost every year, within a very few days of their blooming, the weather becomes mean and cold again and beats up on those innocent little flowers. But also every year, once the rain is passed, the brave little plants turn their heads back toward the sun and start straightening themselves out. Today, Saturday, almost all of them are standing tall and strong once again.

I wrote about that annual event a few years ago, and then shared the article on YouTube in a video. So today, since I’m celebrating the resurrection of my little daffodils again this year, I decided to give that little devotional video a second airing here on my website. I hope it’s a blessing to you.
