Leaf by tender leaf,
I watch this stately monarch
Dressing up for fall.
Gold, russet, yellow,
And brilliant red — her choices,
For she loves them all.
Hour by passing hour
The change begins subdued – but
Then bursts into flame.
I revel in the site.
My heart belongs to Autumn.
It’s joy calls my name.
The troubles that have pressed
Throughout the year now ending,
Though they’re present still,
Are restrained by the power
Of Autumn’s golden glory
To subdue all ill.
My heart belongs to Autumn.
Indeed, it always will.

My favourite time of year…. This poem is ideal for the recent walks I have been on… Tall Trees Trail…try saying that fast..
Hey, that phrase is even hard to READ fast, let alone say it.
A lovely celebration of all that’s autumn. Your poetry is fab!
Thank you so much, Gilly. I often write poetry just for the fun of it, and I’m not much on sophisticated poems.
and so is your new profile pic!
How sweet you are. Thanks for giving my morning a cheery start.
A beautiful picture and a lovely poem to go with it – nice work Sandra. š
Thanks so much. I seem to be able to write a lot about Autumn and Thanksgiving. I just really do love that season. And in my neck of the woods, in the middle U. S., this October has been particularly lovely — about the loveliest we’ve had in several years.
